Exploring New cave in Gower part 2 Cockle Pot
Переглядів 2,4 тис.2 роки тому
This is a story of extremely tight claustrophobic cave exploration. in 2021, the aim was to find a 'back door' into the blocked Llethryd Swallet, first via Barns Cave and then from directly above down an exceedingly narrow rift that we named Cockle Pot. It is a digging story with moments of discovery, unexpected events and disappointment and is told as it happened, without over-sensationalistic...

Beinn an Dubhaich Cave has beautiful banded marble limestone, baked by the intrusion of granite during the Tertiary 40-50 million years ago. Camas Malag Caves have one stream but multiple entrances. Crippens that was a long day and quite the adventure. 12 hours caving if I recall correctly. I stashed a beer by the ofd2 entrance on the way in and enjoyed it in the dark on the way down the hill afterwards. Good times.

Nice video I appreciate it very much. For some reason the editing only allowed each shot to last about 2-3 seconds which was a little bit jarring. Also I’m wondering was this really a cave? Or was it moreso that you mined out a path in a porous area

Wow 😮 If it’s the same John Gunn (Ben Gunn as we called him), then I was one of the Didsbury/PDHS/Magpie lot who caved with him in the early 1970s. I think it was 1973 that we first went into Water Icicle Mine. I have some photos of him and Ady Pearce in there and at Waterfall Swallet, a lot of memories 😀

Beautifully made and very informative video. Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge. I just spent the day exploring this remarkable cave system with my father and brother. The mainstream was indeed entering as a thundering torrent today like you mentioned. As we approached, we could feel the winds and hear it cascading down long before we could see it. Next time we would love to explore the muddy link passage! Have you explored this yet? Cheers, Troy :)

Excellent job. And the quality of the video underground is brilliant. I'm ashamed to say I managed to lose the Llethridd key one bank holiday weekend in the early 90's. My friend and I were locked in the cave for about 4 hours with the water level rising quickly, , eventually finding the key in the streamway directly below the entrance ruckle. It must've slipped out of my inner velcro'd pocket as I leaned over the boulders, looking for a way down the entrance ruckle. It was a scary experience, as we both knew the cave flooded completely to the roof. We didn't actually make it to the decorated chambers, as we were the first in after a stormy winter and there were many blocked sections, requiring effort to open up. But I did get to the decorations on a later trip.

Leviathan wasn't accessible when I was there in the 1970s but the Peak Cavern link was pioneered by us - to the disgust of the Harrison family as we didn't have permission, it was a bit of late night guerrilla caving 😂😂🤣

Hi I think you are referring to a man made tunnel called Peakshole Sough. This is a fairly horizontal tunnel probably dug by miners apparently to lower water levels in their workings. It does not connect to the main Peak Cave. Like all mines it can be hazardous for the inexperienced explorers and because it is so public, in this case I suspect it has been gated for public safety reasons. Beneath it is a spring calls Slop Moll and this carries some of the Speedwell Cave water It apparently does not connect to Peakshole Sough Hope this helps.

28:50 You mention how younger members could hear a piping sound. There is a scientific reason for this - as you get older, your hearing slowly loses its ability to pick up the extremely high pitched sounds!
